My Story

Storm was founded by Mr Will Walker in January 2020, having lost his job due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Will first started to swim teaching 21 years ago at Kells Swimming Club, Ireland, where he was the Club Captain and swam competitively for his club and school. In 2010, Will graduated with a BA (Hons) Degree in PE, Sport, and Dance with QTS from Liverpool John Moores University (the UK's 'Centre of Excellence for Teaching and Learning'). In his time in Liverpool, he was a Trainer Assessor for both the Pool and Beach Lifeguard Qualification for the Royal Lifesaving Society (RLSS) and also worked for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI). Will was also a volunteer and a coach for the Irish Special Olympics team when it was held in Ireland in 2003. As a PE teacher, having studied pedagogy, sports psychology, and physiology as part of his degree, as well as swimming at a high level as a child and teenager, Will firmly believes that through the 'Storm Coaches Education Program,' his team can maximize the potential of every child and adolescent that they teach. This transcends into the extremely high standard that he places on his team in Storm. During his PE teaching days, Will lifted The Pearl (Aldar Academies) from the bottom of the ADISSA B League to joint top of the A league within 2 years and is the benchmark on which he prides his company today. Will understands that every child matters and that every child develops at a unique rate and learns differently.

Mr Will Walker,
Founder, and CEO of Storm Swimming Academy

Therefore he ensures that his team in Storm personalizes children’s learning and uses various teaching strategies within lessons. Differentiation is key in Storm's planning, as is personalized individual targets for children. Will knows that many children enjoy competitive swimming but don’t want to compete. Will uses swimming as a medium to develop children's social, emotional, and well-being, giving them an extremely important life skill. The children that Will and his team teach develop their coordination, which strengthens their neurological pathways, in turn helping to improve their skills in other sports too. Will's team sets realistic SMART targets for the children in lessons, which help improve their self-confidence and teaches them that you can achieve your goals and ambitions with hard work and dedication.
